K1 - Moving the range of 40 meters from 7.100 up to 7.125?

K Price
I have the K1 FL1-4 (40, 30, 20, & 17) installed and working!  My receive range is as follows:

40  - 6.999 to 7.099
30 - 10.093 to 10.193
20 - 13.993 to 14.093
17 - 18.043 to 18.143

I really am most interested in 40 meters and would love to work from 7.030 up into the Novice section.  Is there a way to move the bottom of my range up to 7.025?  What else would that impact?  Would I need to re-peak the filters?

Many thanks and having a blast with #2793

Re: K1 - Moving the range of 40 meters from 7.100 up to 7.125?

Kieth,

If you want to move only 40 meters, you must change the 40 meter crystal
on the 4 band board- you will have to find a fundamental mode crystal
that is 25 kHz higher than the one you have currently installed - most
likely a special order from a crystal manufacturer.

It is easier to move all 4 bands upward.  Just spread the turns on L1 to
obtain the low frequency end point that you want.
You will likely loose 30 meter coverage unless you change the crystal to
the one normally used for the 150 kHz VFO range.

All in all, my opinion is that you would be better off installing the
150 kHz range capacitor.

You may find a bit of benefit by re-peaking the bandpass filters for the
new range, but it probably is not necessary.

This is what I did.  The VFO range on my K1 is roughly 102 khz, and moving L1 to a wider spacing, I ended up with:

40 : 7014 - 7117
30 : 10109 - 10212
20 : 14008 - 14111
15 : 21009 - 21112

So, as a general, I need to be careful at the low end of 40, 20, 15 and the upper end of 30. So, not quite what you were asking for, but I hope it helps anyway.

I wanted to update everyone on what I did.

I followed Don's advice (again) and moved the turns on L1.  I ended up moving the bottom end of the L1 frequency FROM 3090 to 3069.  This gave me the desired coverage on 40 but at the cost of some of 30.  For now I am content with that as I don't use 30 meters very often.  But I was careful to leave some room to play on 30.  The following is the final range.  Thanks to all who offered suggestions.

40  -  7020 to 7119
30  - 10114 to 10213
20  - 14014 to 14113
17  - 18063 to 18162
