For many years, I have been an avid reader of the Elecraft reflector. Yesterday afternoon, at SEAPAC, I officially joined the Elecraft family with the purchase of K1 serial number 2379.
I started in amateur radio in 1965 with the call WN6QYP in the Los Angeles, California area. I held the call WB6VVS for thirty years until I moved to Portland, Oregon in the summer of 1991. I work, as a contract employee, at a company that makes electronic test instruments. You will now be hearing from me a little more often until I get this little gem built. Don't expect to hear it on the air any time soon. My wife and I both work. That will cut into available construction time. I may be calling on a few of you locals, who own working K1s, for assistance from time to time. It was nice to be able to meet Ron, AC7AC, and Lisa for the first time at SEAPAC. Congratulations, Steve, on SN 2379! You will enjoy both building it and
using it immensely. I'm just slightly before you in the SN order. I received SN 2377 a few days ago and have started construction. All done with the 4 band filter board except for the torroids. 15 or 17 meters was one of the most difficult decisions I've had to make in quite some time ;>) Too bad it couldn't have been "both". Having built my K2 earlier, I think I'm going to like the K1 even more. It is indeed simpler, but seems like a really neat design. I'm looking forward to using it in the field this summer (mostly hike-in stuff). Once it is up and running, my K2 SN 5295 will go up for sale, the proceeds from which will be the beginning of my K3 fund - my K3 time will be sometime this coming winter ;>) Welcome and 73 ... All you have to do is install the 17m crystal in place of the 20m crystal and align the 15m band first, followed by 17m. Elecraft doesn't mention this possibility, perhaps because it is hard to imagine someone sacrificing 20m for 17m. (I wouldn't, and 15m very easily wins over 17m for my choice.) Speaking of SN's I wish they had assigned me 2 numbers later then it would
be 2345 instead of 2343 oh well. -- W2CVZ, Michael _______________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Post to: [hidden email] You must be a subscriber to post to the list.
