After years of putting up with a touchy K1 tuning pot, I finally put in a
metal-shaft replacement. The new one felt great, but was tuning backwards
(duh) so I switched the leads, put the cabinet together, and now the VFO
doesn't tune at all.
The LCD indicates I'm at the bottom end of the band when I turn the pot just
above the stop. Right at the stop, I get an E42. (I was getting that E42 at
the stop *before* switching the leads, too, which felt wrong, but I was able
to change frequency anyway. Looking at my notes later, I realized I had had
a tuning range of just 60 khz, even though I've been set up for the greater
tuning range (150 khz plus).)
I've poked around a bit. Pin 14 on P1 on the RF board measures 0 to 100 k
ohms from one end of the pot to the other, so I am assuming the trouble is
not on the front panel even though that's the only thing I was tinkering
with.
This is my reality check: Does that resistance range at the board junction
eliminate the front panel as the problem area?
OSC shows me in the right range, RIT still works, D3 is at 6V, D4 is at 3V,
and I'm looking for hints about what might be going on.
