Don,
you pinpointed the problem exactly! In the buffer stage, I'm afraid I installed the wrong device for Q14 (really careless, to say the least). I pulled out the ZVN4424A, and replaced it with a new 2N4124, and I now have power output on 20m. However, I do still have a problem on 20m. I did not have a clean sound on the sidetone (sounded like heavy key clicks) on 40m before replacing Q14 today. After replacing Q14 I now have a nasty sort of two-tone, worse towards 5 watts out. Sounds like an overload, or maybe RF getting in somewhere. I have the STL set way down to 1 or 2, and that controls the volume, but the sidetone is still pretty awful. In addition, I'm getting a loud sidetone when I activate the TUNE function on 20m (not true on 40m). Any ideas on this new problem? Many, many thanks for your help. David,
Certainly do have a strong suggestion - check to see what transistor you used at Q4. That is where the ZVN4424 should be located. Whatever you installed at Q4 may be allowing the transmit energy to get into the receiver - Q4 is in the T/R switch area. 73, Don W3FPR On 3/20/2013 5:21 PM, David L DuPuy wrote: > Don, > > you pinpointed the problem exactly!
