I've already built a K2 and KX1 and I am quite happy with them. Can someone
give me a perfectly good excuse to build a K1? Tom,
You 'MUST' have a K1 with a 2 band board to cover 80 meters, and you can put 17 or 15 meters for the other band - or convert it to 160 meters for the duration of the sunspot lull. Your KX1 does not cover these bands. The K2 will stay at home while the KX1 and K1 go on outings with you. Alternately, order the K1- 4 band board too and plan the K1 for the base station at camp while the KX1 goes on day hikes with you. Is that sufficient for an excuse? <G> 73, Don W3FPR > -----Original Message----- > > I've already built a K2 and KX1 and I am quite happy with them. > Can someone > give me a perfectly good excuse to build a K1? 1. More convenient to operate than a KX1.
2. Better CW audio than a K2. 3. Cute as hell. 4. You want to build it. You know you do. How many more reasons do you need? I have added "Excuses for Buying an Elecraft K1" to my website. There are 24
reasons or excuses listed at this time. There is also an updated photo of my shack as of April 2005. 73, Jim Jim Larsen http://www.AL7FS.us/ _______________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Post to: [hidden email] You must be a subscriber to post to the list. (...Please:-)) I faced the same issue, and I have resolved it by installing the K1 as a mobile unit in my Jeep. It fits perfectly and works like a charm--hence the need for three Elecraft radios. I've built a fully loaded K1. My excuses for building another one are:
It was fun. I have a dad, W9LDZ and fathers day is coming. If it feels good, do it. The K1 got more action for me but of course your mileage may vary as they say.
