Caught up on some mods (Front End Protection,VFO Tuning Noise, and IF Output Buffer Gain), installed the K3DF Low Pass Filter, KXV3-A, and K144XV.
Did it methodically, with a radio test after each update. Just a couple of glitches.
After installing the VFO Tuning Noise Reduction mod, everything checked ok. Reinstalled the front bottom cover, and the radio went dead with just noise output and a slowly varying whistle/heterodyne-like thing. Only thought was that one of the resistor/diode strings was somehow contacting the bottom panel (even though visually, it didn't look like that was possible), so I put a bit of shrink tubing over the bit of bare ends where the diode and resistor tie together, reassembled and the receiver came back to life. So whether that was the real problem and fix or not, it's back to normal and apparently no worse for wear.
After finishing the K144XV install, it didn't respond like it should -- no lights flashing and relay clicks at the mid-band point, etc. and when I tried setting VX1 OFS, the display didn't show the frequency band (144, 146) as indicated in the manual just "x.xx". Checked connections, scratched my head a good bit, RTFM again, slapped myself in the head and realized I had selected XVR ADR to "Trn 1" and not "Int Trn 1". Pays to RTFM more than once, sometimes ... :-)
All I need now is a 2M antenna up somewhere ...
