K2-10 problems

wsm-3
Hello
Hello
I have just finished building a K2-10 and am having
a bit of a problem getting it to work.
The control board and front panel work fine, but the
RF board just doesn't seem to be there.
I can change all the bands,Go through all the menus,
go to the freaquendcy counter, volt meter, and about
anything that doesn't envolve the RF board.
None of the RF board relays work.
I have resoldered all the pads in the entire rig two
to three times and nothing changes. I even resoldered
all the connectors between the different boards.
RF-U1 has the proper voltage on all pins and so does
all the other components on the RF board.
Any ideas appreciated !

Scott

Re: K2-10 problems

  Scott,

We will have to narrow things down a bit to be helpful - so we need more
detailed information.
You say you can "change bands", but you also say that the relays on the
RF Board do not operate - those two statements are not consistent - the
relays must operate to actually change bands.

You also say that you can "go to the frequency counter" - what do you
see in the K2 display when you put the counter probe in TP2 and enter
the menu for CAL FCTR? - you should read the BFO frequency.
The if you put the counter probe into TP1, it should read the VFO
frequency.  If you set the K2 to 7000 kHz, the VFO should be near
11915.  If that is true, change to 75 meters (4000 kHz) - CAL FCTR
should now indicate about 8915 kHz.

Make these checks first.  The relays are not very loud - could it be
that you are just not hearing them change.
There are many functions on the RF board, and the relay control is only
one of those.  Please be as specific as you can so we can help.
