During a snow squall this evening I thought I'd warm myself up with a
little CW. I tuned around on 40m, found a nice empty spot at 7.025 MHz
and hit "tune". The KAT100 showed red leds which is unusual, started
grinding away, and then...bzzt, pop! Smoke was pouring out of my K2. :-O
Photos are at
http://udel.edu/~mm/ham/smoke/C227 is cinders now and the relay next to it (K12?) doesn't look so
healthy either. While they obviously need replacing, what do you think
about the toroid L26? The wire towards the cap is blackened, but it
looks ok otherwise.
Guess I'll get a hot drink & watch the snow tonight. All things
considered, that's not such a bad thing really.
