I have recently purchased an SB1000 & am expecting an antenna tuner in
another week or so. My question relates to connecting the K2/100 to the amplifier. There is a "keying connection" from J7 on the K2/100. I assume this should work. SB-1000 - "requires contact closure or sink of +12 volts DC @ 100 mA" How about ALC? The SB1000 has an ALC connection & adjustment......."0-20 volts, negative going." Do I need to connect the K2 ALC to the Heathkit SB-1000? Here's what the manual says: =============================== SETTING THE ALC ADJ CONTROL Before the ALC circuitry can fucntions properly the ALC ADJ on the rear of the Amplifier muste be adjusted to work with your particular exciter.... 1. Set the MULTIMETER sitch to POWER OUTPUT 2. Set the transmitter audio control to approx 20% higher than normal 3. Speak int o the microphone in a normal tone of voice and observe the indication on the 0-2000 RF watts meter scale. 4. Adjust the ALC ADJ control on the rear of the Amplifier until the Amplifier shows no clipping on an RF scope or if an RF scope is not available, adjust the ALC ADJ control so the audio peaks do not exceed the single tone output of 1000 watts. =============================== 73 de K5AVJ Lynn K2 #1411 _______________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Post to: [hidden email] You must be a subscriber to post to the list. You don't need it, as long as you are careful to keep the drive reasonable (around 65 watts on most bands). The K2/100's amp key output can handle the SB-1000's relay. -- 73, Vic, K2VCO Fresno CA http://www.qsl.net/k2vco _______________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Post to: [hidden email] You must be a subscriber to post to the list. Are there any clever ideas for amp keying jack if you have the
transverter interface in the lower chassis? The upper holes seem like the cable would be messy. Leigh,
The N0SS amp keying circuit for the QRP K2 requires only the 8R, +6 volts and ground. Yes, you could contain the entire amp keying board within the top cover and use one of the BNC sized transverter holes for the output connector (or drill a new hole). The 8R signal is available at the Control Board P4 pin 9, and +12 volts is available at P4 pin 8 (you would have to run it through a 6 volt regulator). If you have the KIO2 installed, 8R is available on that board at J2 pin 9, but the KIO2 has only a 5 volt regulator - whether the Amp Keying circuit will work with 5 volts instead of 6 is something to be discovered. So there are several possibilities that you can pursue to keep the Amp Keying circuit confined to the top cover - the key is that all signals are available at Control Board P4 - for the mounting techniques and the 'rest of the story', let your creative juices flow. 73, Don W3FPR Leigh L Klotz, Jr. wrote: > Are there any clever ideas for amp keying jack if you have the > transverter interface in the lower chassis?
