Hi John,
I have a QRP K2, and just for the fun of it, I took it along on a SET for
Boulder County, CO. I was testing HF PACTOR in the mountains west of town
where there is no VHF repeater coverage. I had a 100 W mobile rig and a
screwdriver antenna on 80 meters chirping away less than 50 ft from a very
low doublet in the trees. I had the K2 on 75 meter phone connected to the
doublet. Using 5 W, the K2 was getting into the Red Cross and other HF
stations around the state with absolutely no hint of interference from the
big rig down the band (3928 vs 3615 kHz). While I was moving traffic on
Pactor, the other guys were using the K2 to relay traffic between stations
that could not hear each other very well. (Ironic that the QRP rig was the
only one that could hear everyone and be heard by everyone!)
With this and a lot of other backwoods experience with the K2 under my belt,
I would heartily endorse the K2/100 as a very competent emergency rig. It
performs well in extremes of hot and cold, it is easy to operate, has good
audio (xmit and receive), and the receiver is easy on the batteries.

I would like to hear comments from anyone out there using a K2/100 as part
of
an emcomm "go kit" or for portable or fixed emergency communications.
