Recently purchased a nice used K2/100. All seems well but when I use the
narrow filters on ssb I have to retune up about 700hz on lsb. as well as usb . The three narrow filters are all centered on a frequency 700 hz higher. This is my second K@2 and must confess I don't recall the first doing this, but rarely if ever used it on ssb. So are the filters aligned correctly, or perhaps set this way for psk or another mode? And is it possible to bring them into alignment by some simple adjustments? Don't want to throw anything else out of alignment without some advice. Thanks for any assistance.. Dick,
It does sound like your filters (actually BFO settings) may need some TLC and alignment. This is one of the problems with buying a used K2, one never knows if the settings used by the previous owner were 'standard' or were even correct in the first place. The good news is that it can easily be corrected. You will need the counter probe, so if you did not get one with your used K2, you will have to order the probe kit from Elecraft. I highly recommend using Spectrogram when aligning the filters - it gives you a visual picture of the adjustment results. I have a complete K2 dial calibration and filter alignment procedure on my website http://w3fpr.qrpradio.com and the Elecraft website has several items on the Builder's Resource page that will help you set up Spectrogram. The last freeware version of Spectrogram is available for download at Tom Hammond's website www.n0ss.net and is more than adequate for this task. 73, Don W3FPR > -----Original Message----- > > Recently purchased a nice used K2/100. I suppose when I had the Ngen connected to the QRP K2
and accidentally pushed the MSG button causing some CW to be sent means I fried the Ngen circuit. no? de Joe, aa4nn _______________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Post to: [hidden email] You must be a subscriber to post to the list. Joe,
You likely fried the MMIC chip. Get another MMIC and install it, the Ngen will be good as new. I have done that soeveral times, so don't feel like the 'lone ranger'. Slap your wrists a couple times and vow not to do that again! <G> But I keep a couple MMICs on hand just in case. 73, Don W3FPR > -----Original Message----- > > I suppose when I had the Ngen connected to the QRP K2 > and accidentally pushed the MSG button causing some CW > to be sent means I fried the Ngen circuit. no? > de Joe, aa4nn > -- No virus found in this outgoing message.
