K2 3354 has survived its transplant

stephen Farthing
Hi Guys,

As there seem to be a number of people on the list who collect
K2 numbers and locations I would like to say that K23354 now has a new set
of PA transistors fitted and survived the smoke test. Is there really such a
thing as a K2 trainspotter?

FWIW I got the new PA transistors from JABDOG over this side of the pond. I
have a couple of observations. It is really important to follow the
instructions on page 67 of the manual.Q7 and Q8 must be parallel to the PCB
when you fit them..I have some evidence that Q8 was, in my case, not quite
parallel and may not have made full thermal contact with the thermal pad and
heatsink.which is probably why it failed. The second mistake I made was to
have the dummy load connected to the rx antenna socket rather than the TX/RX
antenna socket when I did the TX testing on the K160RX option. Lastly be
very careful when removing blown PA transistors.mine were soldered in really
well and in getting them out I managed to lift a couple of lands.now
repaired.

Fond regards,

Steve G0XAR

PS will there be an Elecraft stall at Orzarkicon this year?..G0BBL, M0PUB
and I will be attending

Yes and No..while the thought police, rig watchers and Homeland Security can't
enforce its use, some Elecraft owners have actually used:

To "register" their gear and/or find serial numbers, calls, etc.

Despite people telling me the HTML is bad, the design stinks, I have things in
th wrong order, the database still works.
