Hello all,
I finished my K2 in June, bare K2 with 160m.
I have listened around since then but I was
never tempted to transmit while I was using my
old manual ASTU.
I finished making a control box, not necessary
but useful, for my new SG-231 automatic tuner.
My aerial is half an incomplete horizontal loop,
currently an end fed long wire, five hundred feet
long in the trees around the house ending in a
spool of wire with another five hundred feet
ready to complete the loop.
I heard Dave, KN4ZQ in Palmyra, VA calling CQ
on Top Band at 2150Z and I called him with my K2
managing to send 10 Watts according to my
Heathkit HM-2140 power and SWR meter that I built
in 1979.
The 'counterpoise' for my SG-231 is a wire
clipped to the water pipes in my basement.
I checked the pipes' electrical continuity back
to the earth line of my well pump that is about
two hundred feet deep and about eighty feet from
my basement shack. I was wondering if that
would be a good earth - it seems good enough.
Dave and I exchanged 559 reports each way.
Great fun and I hope to finish pages in my
log book faster from now on.
Ian, G4ICV, AB2GR, K2 #4962, Long Valley, NJ, USA.
