K2 # 5422 on Tarmack!

Fred (FL)

This evening I rolled the frame of the K2 # 5422 HF
rig out of the hanger - and onto the tarmack.

Started engine:  (13.8VDC Astron RS-35M)

Got the following encouraging test results:

NO SMOKE, "INFO 201", 7100.00c, "ELECrAFt",
"E13.5 i0.08", Encoder Test = OK, Relay Test = OK,
  Menu Tutorial = worked OK,
  Oscillator Test = 03999.98hz

EUREKA!  Looks like K2 #5422 is ready for Lycoming
Engine installation, Bomb Racks, and Fuel Tanks
on RF Board II next!  :)

I'm feeling light headed already!  (I don't need all
this excitment at this point in my retirement)

Thanks, 73's

RE: K2 # 5422 on Tarmack!

Darwin, Keith
That's great Fred.  It sure is nice to see the rig power up and do the
right things without producing smoke.  When I first turned mine on I had
this "are you sure" feeling but I just did what the manual said and all
was fine.

I found the process of disassembling to begin RF board work to be
depressing.  I *just* put it together and the happy little display said
ELECrAFt and the lights were on and the side tone worked ... Sigh.  Out
came the screws and soon I had this rather naked looking board on the
bench.

Then came Nebraska.  Endless miles of stuffing parts and soldering with
little change in scenery and no end in sight.  But, much like driving
across that great state, you eventually get there and, looking back, say
"now - that wasn't so bad"!

And if you think ELECrAFt is exciting, wait until the receiver rumbles
to life and you suddenly realize much of the noise you've been hearing
on 40 and 80 meters was being generated inside your old receiver!

73!
