Well, I managed to open up the box, check out the
speaker wiring (all OK!) and close it up again, all with out ripping out any wires (I hope! ;~)) ) Next stop is to do more on air AF level testing;i.e., find some decent signals, and see how audio responds. Then on to setting the RTTY filters, initially the same as the SSB filters. Eventually, using Spectogram. Have to see about getting an N-Gen, appears to me that's the most accurate way. Doesn't appear to be too difficult a build. Thanks to all who replied on/off group to my questions on audio. 72 de N8PVZ ---bernie Yabba Dabba Doo! ---Fred Flinstone ____________________________________________________________________________________ Need Mail bonding? Bernie,
I would suggest that you go with Spectrogram now - for all the filters. It is harder to explain than to do it. See the information at my website http://w3fpr.qrpradio.com - the CAL FIL info is inside part 3 of the article on K2 dial calibration. The noise generator will not provide more accuracy than noise from a 'dead band'. In these days of low sunspot activity, you should easily find a band that is a bit noisy and contains no discrete signals. Yes, the NGEN is convenient, but it should not be any stopping block for you to get your K2 filters aligned - even the internal receiver noise (turn the preamp on) will give you an adequate amplitude of the receiver passband to align the filters. You really should align the filters before attempting any qualitative evaluations of the received signal quality - the filter alignment is critical to what you hear. 73, Don W3FPR > -----Original Message----- > > Well, I managed to open up the box, check out the > speaker wiring (all OK!) and close it up again, all > with out ripping out any wires (I hope! ;~)) ) > > Next stop is to do more on air AF level testing;i.e., > find some decent signals, and see how audio responds. > > Then on to setting the RTTY filters, initially the > same as the SSB filters.
