K2 #5652 speaker

Jay S
My K2 is working!  I finished it and the internal battery pack this
weekend.  I started building it in July and 46 (non-consecutive) hours
later it works!

I have a problem with the speaker though.  I hear the audio with
headphones plugged in, but don't hear anything through the speaker
with no headphones plugged in.

Can someone give me the pinout of the headphone jack?  I wonder if the
switch inside the jack isn't working.  I've tested the speaker and
it's wiring and that seems to be OK.  The audio signal doesn't make it
to P5.

Once I get this fixed, then I have the KAT2, SSB & DSP options to build.

Thanks & 73
Jay

Re: K2 #5652 speaker

I need to hang my head in shame.  After sending the email, I was
looking in the schematic to see if there were any other places I could
test for a signal.  That's when I realized there were 2 P5's.  Of
course, I had plugged the speaker into the wrong one (on the control
board).  Plugging it into the correct one makes all the difference!

Thanks for your help.  I'll be more careful when I start on my KAT2.

RE: Re: K2 #5652 speaker

Darwin, Keith
Shame, shame, shame!  So you made a mistake, ea?  Welcome to the club
:-)

I *almost* completed my K2 with no mistakes.  Near the end of one
building session, I had very carefully soldered a resistor into its
place, trimmed the leads and as I checked it off in the book realized I
had the right resistor in the wrong spot!  Perfectly mounted, nicely
soldered & trimmed.

And of course I lost a couple of parts.  Fortunately the spare parts bin
had replacements for me so I wasn't held up.

Oh yea, I had some bad solder joints as well.  Reheating a bunch of
connections resulted in issues disappearing.

I suspect that very few builders get through the kit having made zero
errors.  I'd much rather have plugged something into the wrong P5 than
to have soldered something incorrectly.

Or worse yet, mounting a chip in the wrong orientation.

Re: Re: K2 #5652 speaker

Jay S
I kept the first 5 or 6 mistakes I made to myself.  Fortunately, the
worse mistake I made only cost me an hour to get an IC out of the
wrong spot and $1.50 to buy a replacement for the one I destroyed
while removing it.

Now my secrets are out for all to see. :)
