I have played with a KX3. I own a K3/100. I built a KX1 and K1. For some reason I just love the K2. It just feels right to me. I have my K3 and my Dads old K2 sitting side by side and I always turn on the K2. Not sure why this is. Maybe it is the simplicity of the rig. I don't know but I just had to build another K2! I sold one (mistake) then inherited my dads after he became a silent key. I will put his on the shelf to remember him and use my new one when done. I think it will be a basic K2/10 with no SSB and only the DSP and ANT tuner.

Congratulations Keith. I built my K2 #7240 in Nov 2011 so it's good to know that K2's are still being sold at a steady clip.
Take as much time as you need to get it right. It's a very well put-together kit and an impressively engineered transceiver. Dave AA7EE http://aa7ee.wordpress.com/tag/elecraft-k2/ |
Thank you for the encouragement Dave! Love your blog by the way!

I, too, have wanted to build a K2 for years. I got the bug really bad a few months back and then learned that a friend of mine had an unbuilt K2 that he decided (for health reasons) that he could not build. So I bought #6195 and began building it at about the same time as Christophe and Keith.
I'm nearly done with the control board and so far I am loving the experience. Dave, I have learned some things from you in the past (enclosure construction using PCBs) and your K2 blog has already give me a couple of useful hints. Thanks. 73 Alan K6ZY |
The control board for K2 #7375 is complete. The front panel board is finished but not yet in the metal front panel. Getting a little tired tonight and I don't want to scratch the front panel or do anything dumb like that! So I think thats enough for now. Back to it tomorrow!
