I've had this problem for a while and forgot about it since I work mostly CW.
Thanks to everyone that answered my KPA100 message. The ALC works fine on the bands above 40 meters but, on 40 it isn't very aggressive. I will get four or five bars on voice peaks and then the audio will cut out a little at 10 watts as the bars go back down. If I increase power to 15.2 watts, the ALC becomes more aggressive and only shows a max of two bars. It's a little better on 80 meters. What bothers me is the audio cutting out while there is a delay as the bars dissappear. Is this normal? Thanks, Gary, N7HTS ______________________________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:[hidden email] This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html |
Gary,
The K2 is different than the K3 in this respect. On the K2, if you have *any* ALC bars showing, that is enough - driving the ALC harder will not result in additional output, it will just cause RF compression, which may be undesirable - it is better to set the menu SSBC parmeter for a higher compression ratio. Normally, the Transmit Gain of the K2 is higher on 40 and 30 meters, so I wonder about your K2 performance if you do not see more ALC bars on 40 than on other bands. You might want to check the alignment of the bandpass filter for 40 meters. 73, Don W3FPR Gary D Krause wrote: > I've had this problem for a while and forgot about it since I work mostly CW. > Thanks to everyone that answered my KPA100 message.
