K2 Audio Filter Question

Paul Huff-3
I am getting ready to install the KAF2 audio filter in my K2 and I would
appreciate any opinions on the following:

The manual says that installing the W1 jumper will cause AF1 to be skipped and
only AF2 will be available.  Other than reducing the number of button presses to
get to AF2, what would be the reason for doing this skip of AF1?  What is the
main difference between AF1 and AF2?

Thanks in advance for any opinions.

Paul - N8XMS

Re: K2 Audio Filter Question

Paul,

That question is one that must be answered by individual preference,  I
doubt that you will find any consensus.

The AF2 filter is a cascade of both filters and therefore is more narrow
than AF1 which is a single filter stage.

I would suggest that you try it with both AF1 and AF2 available for a
while.  If you find yourself using AF2 more than AF1, then it is an easy
matter to change the jumper to AF2 only.  Evaluate it when the band is
busy, such as during a contest or when a lot of signals are trying to
contact a particular DX station - under casual operating conditions, a
narrow filter is not usually needed.
