Hi,
I'm doing a K2 build, and was doing good till I got to the RF and freq. probe assemblies. The part 1 tests (power up, encoder, relays) worked fine. However, things came to a halt at the RF probe and freq. counter assembly, mainly for lack of details in the instructions and my on-the-job training, and so I messed those up. I am wondering if I can continue w/ the part 2 assembly till I find new parts or must I do the audio amp and tone generator tests, keyer, s-meter alignment, and bargraph current test first, before starting part 2 assembly. I.e. Can I go back and do the tests after starting part 2 assembly? Just finished my K2 (just the basic one at this stage, still waiting for the postman to deliver the SSB module). It really is a great kit, and lots of fun to build. Now I'm just doing the filter alignment with Spectragram, and will do the final dial calibration once propagation picks up and I can hear WWV.
The RF probe is only there if you run into trouble later, to help you trace signals, and the only thing you test at stage 1 with the frequency counter is to verify that the frequency counter can in fact count. I don't think you need to wait for replacement parts for your probes before starting stage 2 -- just complete stage 2, and at the end when they get you to power on the rig, you can do the initial frequency counter test then (at the end of stage 2, you'll need the frequency counter to set up the receiver on 40m). Enjoy the build, it's a great feeling to make that first contact :-) 73, Matt VK2RQ On 20 Apr 2014, at 9:41 am, Lane <[hidden email]> wrote: > Hi, > > I'm doing a K2 build, and was doing good till I got to the RF and freq. > probe assemblies. Shane,
If you note, there is nothing to be done with the RF Probe or the frequency counter probe in that part of Alignment and test, so you can go on with the Assembly Part II - you will need to frequency counter probe for Alignment and Test Part II. The RF Probe is used only for troubleshooting, so ideally, you would not need to use it at all. Do assemble the voltage probe and test it as indicated. If you messed up that assembly too, yes, you can go back and complete the testing of it after building another one. 73, Don W3FPR On 4/19/2014 7:41 PM, Lane wrote: > Hi, > > I'm doing a K2 build, and was doing good till I got to the RF and freq. > probe assemblies.
