K2 C111 polarity not marked

Paul Bruneau
Hi Gang-

K2 #4818 here, Control and Panel boards complete, working on the RF
board, but C111's polarity isn't marked on the board or in the manual!

I assume that the square pad is positive and the round pad is negative,
but I don't really want to assume...can anyone verify for me?

Thanks,

Paul

Argh!! Never mind, there is fine print (but not fine enough to excuse
me missing it!) over to the right of the part in the manual that says
what pad to use for positive. Sorry all.

Must be.  I just looked at my board and the parts layout is missing the
"+" designator as well.  Just powered things up and seems okay anyway.
I'm sure I put the long lead in the square hole like the rest of them.

Let me see, it looks like the "-" stripe is on the right side of the cap
when it is installed and facing the front of the RF board.

I'm just in the process of final alignments.  Lots of fun so far!  Too
bad I have to go to bed now and finish tomorrow, then start making QSOs
sometime tomorrow night!

Definitely weird Paul!

Unless something has been changed since I built mine, the positive lead is
farthest from the front edge of the board. It's oriented just like C105 and
C106. To be absolutely, 100% sure, check continuity from C111 pads to ground
(the pads where the 3-D connectors attach are good places for "ground". The
NEGATIVE lead of C111 goes into the grounded pad.

DMM test leads

Stephen W. Kercel
In reply to this post by Paul Bruneau
Here's a seemingly naive question.

I have a DMM that uses those fancy test leads with booted banana plugs.

For low-voltage DC situations, such as Ohm meter readings, would it do any
harm to plug leads with ordinary unbooted banana plugs into the test lead
terminals of the DMM?

Re: DMM test leads

Philip L Carter
Probably not a problem.  However, if you plan to do surrent measurements,
the outer ring of the shrouded banana plug may actually engage a shunt
switch or other device so that all the current doesn't go thru the meter.
It was this way on my Beckman meters.
