K2 Featured in Hurricane News Coverage

Today, my friend, Pat Allison, KD5TXD, was featured in a news coverage
story about ham radio operators assisting with Hurricane Katrina
communications. In the video, Pat is using a K2/100 rig that she built &
installed in a nifty little operation center. Also lying on the desk is a
KX1 which Pat just finished bulding last Sunday.

HI Lynn and all,
I have been working on a Powerpoint presentation about the K2 that I want to
give at the Starc meeting in October in nearby Corpus Christi. In fact I am
hoping that Pat can also bring her rig to the meeting. I'd like to play the
video of Pat's after the Powerpoint presentation.

Does anyone know of a way to save the movie on a hard disk? I tried right
clicking and it didn't do anything.

Steve,

You need some sort of capture card in your computer. If you have a firewire
port on your computer you can use MS Movie Maker to capture the video. You
should know that video takes a lot of disk space, 9GB for about 5 mins of
video. If you have a stand alone DVD recorder you could burn the footage to
a DVD and show it that way. If you need help, contact me off list, I do this
sort of thing for a living.

Since this is copyrighted material why don't you do the simple and right
thing and ask the station for permission to use it? If they agree they can
send you the clip in a format you can use. If they don't agree then you
shouldn't use it anyway.

You are right but don't be surprised if the TV station turns him down. I got
a phone call from ESPN asking me if I could shoot some footage, of our city,
to be used during the little league playoffs. Our team didn't make it to
Williamsport but I asked them for a copy of the game tape, which they
refused to supply. Even though they used my footage, at no cost to them,
their policy prohibited them from giving me a copy.

The copyright on footage of a little league game belongs to the league, not
to ESPN. It's like a performance -- the rights are owned by the performer.

And it's entirely within the rights of the station to turn him down.

How to download video (tricky but doable):
-get Linux and mplayer ;-)
-click to open video
-save "video" file
-open nice "video" file (it's a text file, really)
-look for mms:// url
-run "mplayer -dumpstream mms://...."
-now enjoy video 8-)

It's about 20MB, when all is said and done. This trick works in almost
all similar cases.

Not quite the entire story - the footage he shot is his own copyright
unless he signed it over to someone. If he didn't then he can tell ESPN and
the others they cannot use it any longer and they have to delete that footage.

Hi all,
The problem may be that I am using Media Player 10 , and when I go to help I
only see two help files, nothing about downloading. Also I can't right
click on anything in this window. I can right click on the Icon in the
prevous web page, but when I choose "Save Target as", I get the following
message "no such interface supported".
Linux is not an option.
