Struggling to get the freq readout of my k2 correct (using various methods
as described on w3fpr's website). Now I am doubting everything (including myself..) so, but to be sure.. What should the readout on the K2 displaying, If I had a carrier at 10.000 MHz and tune it in CW, USB and LSB to have it at 600 Hz tone (equal to my spot tone) ? Thanks in advance, Carel. _______________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Post to: [hidden email] You must be a subscriber to post to the list. Subscriber Info (Addr. In USB or LSB you should hear nothing without modulation on an AM signal like WWV. The BFO is "zero beat" with the carrier in that case. The dial will read 10.000. In CW, normal or reverse, it should read 10.000 when you are tuned to produce a beat note equal to your sidetone - 600 Hz in your case. Of course, the K2 frequency display is seldom perfect for various reasons. A well aligned K2 might read 30 Hz or so off after a decent warm up. That error may shift a little bit as you change from CWn to CWr or USB to LSB because each of those modes involves changing the BFO frequency, and the dial accuracy depends upon how accurately the BFO frequency is set in each case. If you listen to WWV, or some other equally accurate signal, with no modulation, just pure carrier, you should be right on 10.000 IF you are zero beat with your SPOT tone in CW, or are zero beat in SSB mode. It is easiest to check for zero beat in ssb by switching back and forth between LSB and USB until both sound the same when there is AM modulation on the signal. My K2 showed a +5 Hz and -30 Hz error after alignment, there's a table of the errors halfway down the page at: http://www.astromag.co.uk/k2/ As others have said, the design limits the absolute accuracy of the K2's frequency setting. 73 Dave, G4AON K2 #1892 _______________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Post to: [hidden email] You must be a subscriber to post to the list.
