K2: Heil mic configurations

KO5V
I'm sure this topic has been covered before. I would like to use my Heil
BM-10-5 boomset and HMM-Y mic with my K2.

The HMM has both HC-4 and HC-5 elements, and an 8-pin connector
configured for Yaesu radios. The BM-10-5 has the HC-5 element, and a
1/8" mono phone plug. I don't have an adapter cable.

I thought I remembered that a small amplifier had to be used with these
elements, but I can't find any reference to it. Do I need that, or can I
easily set up the mic configuration block to mimic another
manufacturer's settings?

Thanks in advance. I hope my SPAM filter doesn't reply to the entire
list if someone replies, if it does, I apologize in advance (I'm not too
bright sometimes, in fact my DVD player still flashes 12:00!).

Jim,

"It all depends".  If you are using the K2/100, then the RF gain through
the TX chain is usually sufficient for the HC-4 and HC-5 elements.  If
you are using the K2/10, then a microphone amplifier to make up for the
lower output of those mic elements is prudent.  The respomse on the
lower bands will be sufficient, but for use on 15 meters and above, the
preamp may be needed.

Yes, you can configure the K2 microphone configuration header to use
most any microphone pinout.  But you will need to procure or make an
adapter cable for any microphone that uses other than an 8 pin Fostor
connector.

See the KSB2 manual for the microphone configuration settings - it does
not specify the Heil microphones, so wire it for the Heil adapter that
you are using.
