Folks, I need some help with my K2/KIO2. My system must have taken a
power surge that took out the computer/K2 communications. After
running some tests, I replaced the MAX1406 chip and the serial card in
the computer. None of my programs (Logger32, N1MM) read the frequency
of the K2. When using Hyperterm or RealTerm, the K2 TEST sequence is
received by the computer. Sending SW01; to the K2 does NOT produce
the band change expected. So it would appear that the RxD signal to
the K2 is not working.
L3 on the RxD line is good. Voltages on pins 6, 8 and 11 of U1 are
good. Voltages on the diode detector D2/D3 are good.
The K2 configuration is the QRP version. I've confirmed Port ON in
secondary menu and set the port configuration to 8/1, no parity, no
handshaking. The cable is the custom cable built with the KIO2. This is the
configuration that has always worked until now.
I see from the K2 manual that the RxD data from the computer ends up
on pin 26 of the MCU on the control board but I don't know what
happens in the MCU. Is it possible that the MCU is damaged? All
other functions of the K2 seems fine.
If the MCU is unlikely to be the culprit, where else can I look for
the problem? I've stared at the schematic and re-heated the few
solder joints on the KIO2 until my tired old eyes are bloodshot.
Where do I go from here?
72,
Clark WU4B
