Hy to all, i'm beginning my work on K2 6995 kit and i read all the notes about
the solder to use. I have two types of Multicore solder but i'm note sure if one of this could be the right one. I want to be maniacally precise and sharp in working with my K2 kit. Tnx for help. http://i53.tinypic.com/2hygy87.jpg http://i56.tinypic.com/2l8c2dj.jpg IZ2NYY Giuseppe "Pippo" Sorrentino Milano ITALY ______________________________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:[hidden email] This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html

There's lots of information on this website, Pippo. You can search for
Multicore and then Crystal and 2C. Both types are listed and the company specialises in electronics which shows that maybe both types are suitable. http://www.henkelna.com/industrial/brands-1556.htm?redDotUID=brands&parentredDotUID=null&BU=industrial&countryCode=us&brand=000000038D 73 de David G4DMP In a recent message, Giuseppe Sorrentino <[hidden email]> wrote ... > >Hy to all, i'm beginning my work on K2 6995 kit and i read all the notes about >the solder to use. For what it's worth, I used a silver alloy when I built my K2 as that was
being recommended at the time. Apparently there has been a change in thinking away from silver. I can't say I've had any negative effects with it, though. Originally they recommended a low-residue solder with, I think, 3% silver. This does an
excellent job and makes beautiful shiny connections! The downside is that it is somewhat harder to clean out a hole if you need to remove components -- for example, if you accidentally install a wrong one, or to make a modification. So they switched to recommending a tin-lead solder. Personally, I built my K2 with the silver-bearing solder and I haven't been sorry. It's no. 709 so I've made quite a few mods! I mostly use solder wick to clean the holes, although I have a spring-loaded plunger tool which is sometimes helpful.
