K2 PA replacement kit

Dan Grizzard
Hello all,

I just got my PA transistor replacement kit and have a couple of items I want to clarify:

1)      the 2n222a transistors I assume are for Q11 and Q13
2)      the resistor coded brown-green-gold is for R50 in the Q6 driver circuit. Only one in the entire rig.
3)      does both sections of the bottom need to be on for testing or just the front half?
4)      when adjusting the transmit power is the maximum power out limited to 2 watts, 5 watts, 10 watts respectively at the 2 watt, 5 watt, 10 watt test level?

Again, I just wanted to clarify these items before I power up the rig again. I really do not want to fry my new parts!

Dan,

Yes, the 2N2222A transistors are for Q11 and Q13.  Many times a PA
transistor failure will take out those as well.
Yes, the 1/2 watt resistor is for R50.  If you have an old K2 with the
1/4 watt R50, replace it with the 1/2 watt.
Only the rear (heatsink) half of the bottom cover needs to be on for the
test.  Do NOT transmit with no heat sink on the PA transistors - that is
a sure way to send them to their early demise.
Try it first at 2 watts - if all is OK, then try 5 watts, and finally
try 10 watts.  You can also try maximum power if you want - keep the
transmit (TUNE) times short for the 10 watt and max power tests.
