K2 Power Consumption

m1bnw

Dear All,
I have reached the Alignment and Test, Part II of the construction of my K2 4149. When I power up the quiescent current at a supply of 13.7v is 300mA. This seems high to me when I read what is quoted in the K2 Manual.
Can anyone remember what their current figures were at this stage in the construction ?
I seem to remember having about 150mA for the first stage of the building.
I have checked some on board voltages and all seems fairly close the quoted figures. I have not yet started any of the alignment tests as this power figure bothers me. Nothing seems to be getting too hot either.
My power supply does have a built in current meter so the figures are accurate.
Would appreciate any feed back.
Regards Colin

RE: K2 Power Consumption

Colin,

At this stage you should usually have about 200 ma current draw as indicated
on the K2 display (tap the DISPLAY button).  You have the full receiver
compliment of active stages installed at this point, and there will be
little additional current drawn when you add the other bands filter
components and the transmitting parts.  A fully configured K2 with the KSB2
and KNB2 options usually draws about 240 ma while receiving.

The most likely cause is a component that is wrongly placed (my first guess
would be a resistor) - check the value of the installed components - the
parts listing is the best place to find the proper value for a component,
trying to find it in the assembly list is a real chore, but the parts
listing produces the value of (example:) 'R17' easily.
