K2 QSK ON and OFF, Using the Vox Button

W7is
Don, W3fjp finally figured out what I was talking about as far as
having a QSK On and OFF feature for the K2.   All other rigs I've  owned
over the past 40 years included a method to place the rig into CW standby.
Call it whatever you want,   CW Standby,  QSK OFF,  CW  Monitor etc...
The only way its related too Vox is turning off QSK uses the Vox button  when
in the CW mode.  Which places the rig in the cw test mode.    That way the
rig can be keyed without putting out power.  Page 96 of the  manual.

Maybe I'm the only one who uses mechancial speed keys with the  K2?
I have five speed keys hooked up in tandem  and I need a  fast
way to test and adj them.   Which is more often than you  think.

So the Mode/Vox button has a 3rd feature while in the CW mode
which is called CW TEST but there is no indication of that
on the front panel.   Just something you have to know  exists.
And Yes,  I would like it a lot if the rig defaulted into QSK Off  Modeor
CW test mode when it was first turned on.   Or at least had that  feature
available as a menu option.   So it could be used that way if you  wanted.

I dont use an electronic keyer (paddle on cw)....
That takes all the fun out of CW :-)

Not true.  If you look at the small "c" on the extreme right of the display
(it indicates that you are in the CW mode) you will note that it blinks on
and off when you are in the CW TEST mode.  73 hv fun es gud dxing -- Don
