Next hurdle (my apologies for all the questions) - I just finished the "BFO Test" and found that my BFO low frequency was a touch high (only about .5kHz). I am assuming this is because I don't have a frequency counter and was unable to do the internal frequency counter calibration. Would you all concur?
That said, is it reasonable to continue on and leave the calibration to be done against WWV on-air? At this point, with an antenna connected, I hear no signals on 40M except the internally generated signal which I read around 7.000mHz (+/- 1 or 2 kHz). Switching back to my other rig, I do hear signals so I know the antenna works and the band's not dead :) Should I be hearing stuff at this point? Thanks for bearing with my questions... -Jeff _______________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Post to: [hidden email] You must be a subscriber to post to the list. Jeff,
Those questions are what this reflector is for - have no sorrow about asking. You may eventually have to lower the BFO frequency, it all depends on other factors such as your SSB filter width and your choice of center frequency for the RTTY filters (if you choose to use those). For now, just go on. Set the BFO frequencies for the filters as indicated in the manual before you make any judgement about the receiving ability - after the BFOs are set, if you cannot hear good 40 meter signals, then you have another problem (but it is not the BFO frequency). If you set the trimmer cap on the control board as indicated in the manual, your internal counter is close enough for the time being - do not be concerned about it until your K2 is completed. 73, Don W3FPR > -----Original Message----- > > Next hurdle (my apologies for all the questions) - I just > finished the "BFO Test" and found that my BFO low frequency was a > touch high (only about .5kHz).
