K2 Receive Almost Dead on 15m, Xmit OK

Jim Brown-10
The subject says it all. One of my K2's seems to have normal
sensitivity on all bands except 15m. The receiver is running, but
sensitivity is down by 20-30 dB. Any ideas about where to look? I'm
suspecting a bad T/R relay, or something around there.

Jim:

The same Electronic TR relay is used on all bands.  Check and see if by
chance the attenuator is activated on 15 meters.  The setting for the
preamp/atten is stored on each band... (See if on 15 meters there is  an
arrow lit above the ATT on the display)  Also it is possible for all other
bands to have the Preamp on and 15 Meters have it selected off.  If you have
the 160 Meter option make sure that the external antenna is not activated on
that band.  (enter the main menu and select the RANT function and see if it
is operational on 15 Meters) That is also stored in the memory on each band.

Good Luck & 73

If it's only on 15M, it's pretty much a certainly that it's NOT the T-R
relay, which is common to all bands.

Consider going to my web site  www.n0ss.net  and downloading my K2 Cheap &
Dirty Signal Tracing document and seeing if you can localize the problem a
bit more.

OH... one more thing... if you have the K160RX installed, be sure you don't
have the AUX ANT INPUT turned on for 15M... seen that happen more than once.
