K2: Replacement tuning knob for K2?

VK7JB

Hi Jim,

I bought one of Fred's knobs.  You'll find the details and a video demo here:

www.73cnc.com

Beautiful product, aesthetically and functionally.  Makes the K2 VFO a joy to
play with and to look at.  I always thought that the stock VFO knob was cheap
looking, too light to allow a good spin and felt harsh to my finger tips :)
Fred's service is excellent too.  I bought the black one.

Expensive?  Perhaps, but then, my K2 wasn't cheap and I intend to keep it
forever, so a beautiful knob is a great investment.  It's worth every cent, IMHO.

73,
John

Jim Rogers, W4ATK
Elecraft also has a very nice new weighted know for the K2. I just
bought one, $27.02. Part number E850013.

Interesting. I did a search of E850013 on the elecraft.com site. No hits.

Wayne, Eric, could someone enlighten us about this part?

Don Wilhelm-4
  Bill,

Individual part numbers are not listed on the Elecraft website.  You
will find part numbers in the manuals.  Yes, E850013 is the stock K2
tuning knob, and it IS weighted (all of them are) with brass.
If you ask [hidden email], you can also obtain the knob without the
brass insert - it is less expensive and the old brass body can be re-used.

Jim Rogers, W4ATK
Don, not according to my K2 manual. It lists E980013. The "new" knob
is E850013.  it is new to me anyway....<GRIN> and apparently to a lot
of others. Madelyn gave me the number when I tried to order the old
E980013.

Does the new knob have the irritating sharp edges?

  Jim,

OK, my mistake for not looking at the first digits.
Anyway, my point was that all the K2 knobs have always been weighted,
and secondly that part numbers are not listed on the webpages.

Re: K2: Replacement tuning knob for K2?

Don Wilhelm-4
In reply to this post by Guy, K2AV
  Guy,

The one on the new K2 I am building (arrived just last week) has the
same knob from all appearances.
The sharp edge is not a problem for those who use a finger alongside the
knob for tuning, but for those of us who use a "thumb on the rim", the
thumb get sore after a while.  A rubber tire (broccoli band) is one cure.
