Control board finished, started on front panel. I am very impressed with
the quality of the kit, and the documentation. David,
Enjoy the build. Yes, the manual is quite good - my 14 year old grandson was able to complete a K2 build using only the instructions and a (very) few helps from "grandpa". Enjoy the build, and you can be rightfully proud of the results. I can offer one assist - the varactor characteristics have changed from the time the manual was written, so the variable filter settings for the SSB filters indicated in the manual are no longer valid - the more narrow CW settings are OK. For instance, a filter width as indicated by the K2 display of 2.00 kHz may actually be 3 kHz or more. The best solution to this "problem" is to use Spectrogram (or similar) to measure the actual passband width. Refer to my website (www.w3fpr.com) article dealing with K2 Dial Calibration for information about how the set up and use Spectrogram to set the K2 filters. 73, Don W3FPR On 9/3/2010 9:45 PM, david m wrote: > Control board finished, started on front panel. Hi David,
Your post brings back fond memories. I built K2 #6030 back in March of 2007. I remember how impressed I was with the quality of the engineering. I had built many Heathkits back in the day, but nothing compared to the experience of building the K2. Although I now have a K3, I'm seriously considering getting another K2 just for the building experience. There's nothing like the feeling you get when you make that first contact. Enjoy the build. Savor it. It's a real treat. David, W4SMT --- On Fri, 9/3/10, david m <[hidden email]> wrote: > Control board finished, started on > front panel. After having the kit on my desk since Dayton Hamvention in May, and little or no time to start up, today was the day of days. I am as exited as a 5-year-old at christmas morning :-) 73 OZ2BRN Brian ______________________________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:[hidden email] This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html |
