K2 SSB Adjustments?

Curt
I built and installed the KSB2 into my K2 awhile ago, rarely use it.  Today,
used it for SS on 15M and it seemed to work OK.  But,  with power setting
much above 5W, would get the Hi Cur warning. SSBA is 1, SSBC is 2-1, and
microphone is Elecraft MH2.  Is there a better way to optimize the settings
to allow more power?

  Curt,

The answer is "yes", although I suspect that you are not going to like it.
If you are getting Hi Cur warnings on SSB, I suspect that you have
something wrong on CW as well.

normally HiCur warnings are associated with T4 or the Low Pass Filter -
or low power supply voltage.

Is this confined to one or two bands?  If so, the low pass filter for
that band is suspect.
If it occurs on all bands, then T4 is the more likely suspect.

Did you decide to wind T4 for the "greater efficiency at 5 watts"
ratio?  If so, that ratio is not usable at powers over 5 watts and is
not usable for SSB - in fact, the PA will not operate in a linear
fashion with that turns ratio, and at powers over 5 watts, the PA is
more inefficient than with the standard winding ratio.

Tell us more about your setup and conditions.

In reply to this post by Curt
   Curt,

Do you have any mods installed on the KSB2 - most particularly the KI6WX
Increased SSB RF Gain mod?
That mod requires changes to the KSB2 ALC circuit which were not known
when the original mod was documented.
