K2 SSB Mods

N9AUP
Earlier this week, mention was made of the K2 SSB Mods at http://www.qrpproject.de/Media/pdf/SSBModsUK.pdf

I'm about to install the KSB2 in my Serial # 7235 K2.  Once I've confirmed that the unit works OK per the construction manual, should I install the above mods as a matter of course?

I do intend to eventually drive an outboard linear with my K2

Thanks,

George

George,

If you are using the Elecraft MH2 (or Proset-K2) or other high output
electret type microphones, then you do not need those mods.  If you will
have the KPA100, then the mods are not needed.

If you will be operating the K2 as a QRP SSB transceiver and will be
using a lower output microphone, then yes, you would find those mods
worthwhile.
I would not install them on a routine basis, particularly the KI6WX
Increased KSB2 RF Gain Mod - even the original author now states that it
is completely unnecessary when the KPA100 is to be installed because the
KPA100 does have reserve RF Gain while the base K2 may be marginal on
some bands, particularly 10 meters.
