K2 SSB audio falling off

My K2 has an interesting problem. While listening to SSB, after a period of
time, the audio fades way back. If I tap the key, and briefly put it in
transmit, it comes back. Also, I do not have any audio on transmit unless
the meter is set to ALC. If it is in the RF position, it transmits, but only
the carrier.

That sounds like a similar problem to what I had.  It turned out to be
the speaker jack on the read of the top cover.  I carefully bent the
spring shorting contact to make sure it made a good connection.  That
cured the problem.
