Speaker quit functioning on K2 s/n 06424. Are the K2 headphone jack
switches prone to failure? Curt,
The switch in the back part of the headphone jack (the switch that turns the speaker on/off) has a plastic lever on it which does break on occasion. Elecraft has tried unsuccessfully to have the manufacturer beef up that lever, but unfortunately, it has been to no avail. There is no other switch like it. Order Elecraft PN E620028 from [hidden email] The switch is made by Kirbiconn, if you want to look for it at Mouser or Digikey. 73, Don W3FPR On 4/18/2011 9:41 AM, Curt wrote: > Speaker quit functioning on K2 s/n 06424. Thanks Don,
Is the part number you mentioned for the entire jack? I'm guessing the switch is integral to the jack. And is there a way to confirm it is broken without removing it. Looking at the headphone jack lands from the bottom of the rig with the bottom cover removed, and the front of the rig closest to me, I'm thinking that the back lands are the switch contacts? Center and right should have continuity with the headphone jack removed? Open with the jack installed? 73, Curt KB5JO ______________________________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:[hidden email] This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html |
Curt,
Yes, the 3 pins at the rear of the switch are the ones for the switch, and it is integral to the jack housing. I can't recall which two of the 3 pins close the speaker circuit, but since your speaker does not work, check continuity - the two that show continuity are NOT the ones for the speaker - if you want a "quick fix" while waiting for the replacement jack, short the two pins that are currently open, and your speaker should come alive again. If you need to silence the speaker, put an empty plug into the external speaker jack. 73, Don W3FPR On 4/18/2011 11:18 AM, Curt wrote: > Thanks Don, > > Is the part number you mentioned for the entire jack?
