K2 Trimmers - Which flat side?

eKotz
Folks,

I have successfully reached my K2 Assembly, Part III, pg. 65, trimmer
installation step.   The red marked trimmers were no problem identifying
the orientation.   It looks like the 30 pF trimmers are different than
were in the older kits and there is my difficulty: The 30pF trimmer caps
(C32, C34, C44 & C46) have two flat sides... a large flat and an
opposing small flat and my question is... which is the correct flat for
proper orientation?   --I did not find this in the archive... I may not
be phrasing my search properly.--

Thanks,
Ed - AD7GR

To the best of my ability (e.g. memory) I put the shorter flat side
along the flat side on the silk screen, and the long flat side against
the long rounded side of the silk screen.  I just finished my rig over
the weekend and aligned it without issue.

Ed, there was a builder's alert released on March 1 on this subject. I can't
find it on the Elecraft web site, so I'll attach a copy to this email going
direct to you.

You should have gotten a copy in your kit. I'm sorry if that didn't happen!

I'll ask Aptos to post the alert for others.

That's correct David. If they're installed backwards one may need to use a
non-conductive screwdriver to align them. The idea is to have the
screwdriver slot at RF ground. That way a metal screwdriver can be used. If
the slot is "hot", touching it with a metal screwdriver will detune the
circuit.
