[K2] W3FPR Fixed audio out - installation options or ideas?

VK7JB
Hi all,

Just curious to know if it's possible to install the W3FPR Fixed Audio out board external to the K2?
I've made up Don's circuit on a small piece of perf board, but for various reasons related to the way I've built it, the board's not going to fit comfortably between the front panel and control boards on the K2.

Is it possible to somehow take the audio to an RCA/other  jack on the back of the K2 and then mount the circuit board externally in a small box, to which I'd then connect my Signalink unit audio input?  Anyone done this?  Any other ideas for implementing the fixed audio out?

Thanks again,

John

I have built Don's fixed audio out board and fitted it as suggested with no problems whatsoever. Output is taken to a phono socket fitted in one of the unused transverter holes in the top panel. When I fitted the 60m option which includes the transverter interface I used the new heatsink so the transverter sockets use the holes in there, making the ones on the top panel redundant. It works fine.

  John,

In your case, I would suggest you put a connector on RF Board J5 and a
3.5mm stereo jack on the rear panel.  Pins 1 and 3 of J5 are the
balanced audio signals and pin 2 is ground.  The balanced audio signals
go to the 2 inputs of the LM386 (through capacitors).

You will lose 3 dB of gain if you only connect one side of the balanced
audio (through an RCA jack).

  John,

I forgot to point out that the audio signals at RF J5 are almost the
same as those I normally use - the difference is that the J5 signals are
not muted during TX.  The lack of muting is normally not a problem when
used for data modes, but may be bothersome if doing recordings.
