Thanks to everyone who spoke on this topic. I really appreciate the help.
Looks like I'll either have to break down and build the SSB module for the PTT or the WinKey looks like an interesting alternative with lots of flexibility. Much to mull over! Thanks everyone. Why would you need to do that? Just make up a simple transistor switch
from one of the comm ports and hook it to the CW key input jack of the K2. Writelog will work just fine running the K2 in break in mode.. Or even full break in mode. Drive a reed relay with the comm port if you need lower resistance to key the K2. They are $3.98 at Radio Shack. Unless I have missed a turn in the road here. 73 Jim W7RY At 03:44 PM 5/11/2005, Andy Bullington wrote: >Thanks to everyone who spoke on this topic. My thoughts exactly - even though Writelog provides a PTT output, it will
withhold keying until after PTT time - and the K2 will not care - it waits until it sees a closure on the key contacts to transmit anyway. The K2 PTT input is only a PTT input when in SSB mode - it is the DOT input line when in CW mode. In cases like SO2R operation where PTT steering is being used, there will be a problem unless the key line is also steered. One solution is my CW PTT circuit which may be seen on my website www.qsl.net/w3fpr or the mirror at http://home.earthlink.net/~w3fpr. 73, Don W3FPR > -----Original Message----- > > > Why would you need to do that? You haven't missed a thing, as long as you're talking CW! The simple interface I described is all it takes. Don's embellishment should be fine too -- just a slightly different way to skin the cat. Bottom line -- all it takes for Writelog to send CW to the K2 via the computer serial port is either one transistor, a resistor, and two diodes, or two transistors and two resistors. As has been noted, Writelog talks to the K2 just fine.
