Ever see those hard plastic snap-on protective covers
for the fronts of oscilloscopes? They cover the entire front, the display and knobs, from damage and dust. I'd really like one for my K2 for transport. I have a foam case I carry the K2, mic, key, cables, etc, etc in, but the K2's face is not 100% protected. __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Yahoo! I *really* need one for my KX1. I have trashed 2 or 3 pots by
compression when carrying it in my waist pack. In fact I have to replace a scratchy pair now that has to be pressed and gingerly rotated. I was thinking of thick foam with cutouts, to save weight. Maybe we can get someone to make a bunch. Folks,
I have seen several 'carry-cases' for many rigs, and it suddenly dawned on me that the common packaging used for these carry-cases is incorrect. Most all I have seen orient the rig so it appears in its normal operating position when the case is opened - that means the knobs are toward the front of the case and the connectors are nearest the hinge of the case. Consider where the shock is when the case is placed on the floor - the connectors take the brunt of the shock, and the knobs may suffer too when the foam packaging 'bounces back'. A better way to orient the 'carry case' is for the rig to be 'side to side'. That way, the sides of the transceiver take the shock and the more fragile knobs and connectors will be better protected. Additionally, if you can find it, real high density foam is an excellent choice for encapsulating the transceiver. The stuff I am referring to is quite 'hard' and you can only indent ot with a LOT of force. I'm sorry, but my source has dried up - I previously used it to package fragile plasma display modules a while back, but I can say it is great stuff for damage protection. The KX1 with it's top mounted knobs and small size is a different animal, so for that, some type of protective cover would be in order -- I am really addressing the K1 and K2 situation rather than the KX1. 73, Don W3FPR ----- Original Message ----- > I *really* need one for my KX1.
