K2 alignment tool XG2 or XG3

Don Baucom
This post was updated on .
I am thinking of getting the XG2 or XG3 to help with the aligment of my K2 (#7261). I am to the point where I will do the first power on test of the control board. It will be a while before I test the receiver. I dont mind investing a little more if the XG3 will be more helpful?. I aligned the K1 with a FT-450D transmitting 5 watts into a dummy load.

I used the xg3 to align 10 and 12 m which would have been difficult because of the low noise levels in those bands.  People have done it without but I have done a much better job of alignment with it overall

Don,

The XG2/3 is a nice-to-have for alignment of the K2, not a need-to-have.

I aligned my K2 on the band noise and used a simular way to bring a
signal on highest bands (like you used your ft450),
I have a XG2 now for measuring purposes, but seeing the XG3... sure
would like one of those some day.

I used the N-gen ... worked fine for initial alignment and, together with the free
version of Spectrogram, worked very well for filter alignment.
