Hello FM,
I would like to do some digi modes with my K2. I don't like external interface and would like to install something inside the K2. I saw on internet a board from en EA station, but it seems that this is not availiable anymore. All info is welcome. Rudi,
Take a look at the W3FPR Fixed Audio Output that can be found on Tom Hammond's website www.n0ss.net. Unfortunately, Tom no longer offers the boards but has offered to provide the PC board data to anyone who wants it. You could easily wire the circuit on a piece of perfboard. That takes care of the output (without isolation transformers), but you are on your own for the input side. If you have no need for switching between digital input and a microphone, there is nothing wrong with putting a resistive attenuator on the Mic AF line inside the K2 - you can easily break the line at the microphone configuration header and add a couple resistors at that point. If you use RTS or DTR from the serial port for PTT, you will certainly have to place the one transistor interface (or optoisolator) for that outside the K2. I guess one could butcher the KIO2 or AUX I/O internal K2 signal lines on the KPA100, but that would make it unusable fo connecting an external Elecraft device like the KAT100, the XV series transverters or the KRC2, and I would not recommend doing that. Any isolation transformers may have to live outside the K2 if it is a K2/100 - there is just not room inside. In the K2/10 you might find room for the transformers, but that depends on the particular options you have installed. You may not need the transformers if you follow the guidelines offered by Jim Brown W9YC - see http://haminterfacing.pdf for more information. 73, Don W3FPR Rudi wrote: > Hello FM, > > I would like to do some digi modes with my K2. > > I don't like external interface and would like to install something inside > the K2. > > I saw on internet a board from en EA station, but it seems that this is not > availiable anymore. > > All info is welcome. > > Best 73 - Rudi - ON7CL / KB8TAB > ______________________________________________________________ > Elecraft mailing list > Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft > Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm > Post: mailto:[hidden email] > > This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net > Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html > ------------------------------------------------------------------------ > > > No virus found in this incoming message. > Checked by AVG - www.avg.com > Version: 9.0.791 / Virus Database: 271.1.1/2758 - Release Date: 03/19/10 18:07:00 > > Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:[hidden email] This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html |
The link I provided below for Jim Brown's HamInterfacing document is
incomplete (Blame Jim, I copied it from one of his posts :-) ). Use http://audiosystemsgroup.com/HamInterfacing.pdf instead. 73, Don W3FPR Don Wilhelm wrote: > Rudi, > > Take a look at the W3FPR Fixed Audio Output that can be found on Tom > Hammond's website www.n0ss.net. > Unfortunately, Tom no longer offers the boards but has offered to > provide the PC board data to anyone who wants it. I still have 5 of the boards for the W3FPR Fixed Audio Output,
one of which is fully populated and tested. I had EA3BLQ's digital interfaces in both my K2's, but connector space on the back panel got to be a hassle, and they were no longer available. So I went with the W3FPR version, which could be (and was) installed in a K2 in DXpedition conditions. But I ended up with extras, so.... I don't recall what I paid for them, but I'll send the populated one to Rudi for postage, and one of the blank boards to anyone else for a SASE to my callbook address. 73, doug ______________________________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:[hidden email] This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html |
Doug,
You might want to mention which version of the fixed audio board you have. The original one had the electrolytic capacitors standing up on the board, and the instructions for that board are on my website www.w3fpr.com. The later board had the components laying down and would fit between the front panel and control board. For instructions on that board, look at www.n0ss.net. To give credit where it is due - Tom Hammond did the board layout for both boards. I sold the first version, and Tom sold the 2nd version boards. 73, Don W3FPR Doug Faunt N6TQS +1-510-655-8604 wrote: > I still have 5 of the boards for the W3FPR Fixed Audio Output, > one of which is fully populated and tested. > > I had EA3BLQ's digital interfaces in both my K2's, but connector space > on the back panel got to be a hassle, and they were no longer > available. I actually used miniature caps and have them standing up. It installs
behind the front panel on a small standoff very nicely, with the pot accessible from the top with only the cover off, so the level can be adjusted using a signal through the radio. I think I got the boards from Tom, but it's been a while. And all that I have are committed now. 73, doug X_CMAE_Category: 0,0 Undefined,Undefined Date: Sat, 20 Mar 2010 13:13:01 -0400 From: Don Wilhelm <[hidden email]> Doug, You might want to mention which version of the fixed audio board you have. Doug,
Since the boards have the pot, they are definitely from my batch - Tom's had two fixed resistors in place of the pot which worked well because the level could be adjusted with the soundcard controls. Those who get your boards should look at the instructions on my website www.w3fpr.com. 73, Don W3FPR Doug Faunt N6TQS +1-510-655-8604 wrote: > I actually used miniature caps and have them standing up. Yep, the board shown on your site is the one. I used a miniature pot
(1/4" square) that fits the board pattern, with the adjustment screw parallel to the board so it can be reached from above. I used an 1/8w resistor, miniature 3 x 5mm electrolytic caps, and an 1/8" standoff to mount it. When I get a camera again, I can take photos of the board in a K2 since I have to replace the earphone jacks on both K2's. 73, doug Date: Sat, 20 Mar 2010 14:18:28 -0400 From: Don Wilhelm <[hidden email]> Doug, Since the boards have the pot, they are definitely from my batch - Tom's had two fixed resistors in place of the pot which worked well because the level could be adjusted with the soundcard controls.
