Does anyone out there know of a company taht could assemble a
"pigtail" assembly for the k2 ant connection. I have never had ham gear with BNCs . One end of coax would be BNC and the other SO-239. Dennis,
There are adapters that will do the job nicely. The MIL type for that adapter is UG-255/U and Mouser has the Amphenol version as PN 523-2900. They also have the Bomar equivalent (apparently not MIL spec) as PN 678-3317505 but you can find others too - try RF Parts for one source. The other possibility is for you to get a short piece of coax and a BNC plug and a cable mount UHF connector and build your own adapter. If you are using the 1/2 inch coax, a short adapter of that nature is the best choice since the heavier cable can pull the K2 off the table. Yes, you can find several companies that will make up custom cables, but you may not like their prices for a single unit. 73, Don W3FPR > -----Original Message----- > > Does anyone out there know of a company taht could assemble a > "pigtail" assembly for the k2 ant connection. Dennis, there's BNC->SO-239 plugs widely available, you can pick one
up at your local Radio Shack... -J On 1/21/07, Dennis Vavra <[hidden email]> wrote: > Does anyone out there know of a company taht could assemble a > "pigtail" assembly for the k2 ant connection. One thing to be aware of is that if you're using the bail to hold the front
of the K2 up at an angle, many of the adapters will hit the table in back because of how close the BNC is to the bottom of the K2 back panel. One solution is to add a BNC right-angle adapter ahead of it. Of course, there's one simple solution: add the Elecraft KPA100 module. It comes equipped with an SO239 connector all ready to go. At $389 it's not a cheap adapter, but you get a 100 watt 160-10 meter amplifier thrown in for free. Seriously, this issue of "which connector" is a pain that shows no sign of getting better. BNC's are quick and easy to work with and will handle the legal limit easily but a pain to use with larger-diameter coaxial cable. And then there are all the variations such as Type N as well as gender combinations. Over the years I've acquired well over $100 of adapters just to deal with all the various options I encounter. I've always found that a good quality adapter costs much less than a cheap one; I've still got some Amphenol adapters I bought in the 1950's, but I can't tell you how many cheap ones from various manufacturers I've purchased over the years and thrown away because they developed an intermittent or even became open inside. It's a real "downer" to spend an hour or so troubleshooting a problem with an apparently bad cable only to finally discover it's a flaky adapter at one end instead!
