K2 backward compatability

Tom Zeltwanger
The new K3 sounds great but for now I will be completing my K2 station. So I am
looking for continued upgrades and options for the K2, as well as eventual
upgrade path to a K3 in a year or two.

Will there be any K3 options that might become useful with a K2 station? My
main interest here is in outboard amplifiers for digital modes (sound like K3
100 watt unit may have better cooling, allowing higher power levels in high
duty-cycle modes). Also, will the big linear amps that are planned work with
either K2 or K3?

Tom,

The KPA800/1500 amplifiers will work with any rig, including the K2 and
K3. These have been delayed because of the K3 release, but we'll keep
everyone informed of progress.

We plan an external speaker/power supply unit for the K3 someday, as
well as a panadapter, and these would all work with the K2.

The K2 may benefit from some of the K3's hardware and firmware,
someday, but I can't predict when/if.

Wayne,

That sounds great. I would love to have a matching speaker/power supply for the
K2. And a panadapter would be a huge benefit for my station. The lack of one of
these is the one factor that almost made me buy another rig!
