K2 build underway

Stephanie Maks
After having so much fun building my K1, I decided to go for it and
ordered a K2, which arrived yesterday.

The fun started last night after work.  I got as far as the first
alignment and test - it was a happy moment when the "Elecraft" came
up on the display.  Tonight I'll start the assembly stage 2.

I have a question though about the fold-out stand thing.  I was able
- with some difficulty - to get the two oval feet installed with the
bail thing in between them, but there was a lot of tension on it and
one of the oval feet looks to be a little crooked.  The tension is
also enough that the whole bottom plate seems to be a little bit
bowed.  It's sort of straightened out when the 6 screws are holding
it to the RF board though.

Is this normal, or does that suggest I used too much force to get the
bail / feet installed?  Also, is there a trick to getting that
installed?

Thanks, and 73!

Congrats!

Seeing "ELECrAFt" is neat, but receiving on 40m is even better. I picked
up someone 400km away using only half a spool of wound, untuned solder
as a makeshift antenna   :-)

I had to do quite a bit of loosening/tightening of screws until I was
happy that the whole stand was fairly straight and neither foot was
crooked. It still bends the whole bottom plate, as you describe,
particularly if the stand is "out", and indeed, it seems to straighten
out when it's properly screwed in with all 6 screws.

... so either it's normal, or mine's just as bad as yours   :-/

I did consider taking it apart, sticking the whole bar in a vice and
attempting to re-bend it a bit to make it a bit less brutal, but I've
been led to believe that this can ruin the fold-out action.
