K2 deaf

K4TM
K2 #5266 was playing beautifully on cw and I aligned the filters last
night for SSB, had no problems with that alignment. When I finished, I
found my K2 deaf on ALL bands (it transmits just fine!)...The RANT is
OFF, I have good tone with the SPOT feature (yes, I went through the
troubleshooting steps), even went so far as to do a reset...nothing
restored my K2's ears.  Oh, yes, the antenna jack is connected to the
135' dipole and not the dummy load.

I'm hoping its something really simple but at this point (actually at
1:30am), I'm mighty frustrated.

Anyone have any ideas?

Cary,  K4TM

RE: K2 deaf

If you have the autotuner installed, is it selected on the correct antenna
that you have the dipole plugged into? I've made that mistake before.. At
1:30am that sort of thing is easy to miss! 73,

I had a problem with 17 meters (or so I thought) where the receiver was
deaf.  What had happened was that I must have accidentally pressed "ant 2"
and the K2 remembered that setting on that band.  (The KAT2 is installed).

Cary,

I don't have any really good ideas about what may be wrong (other than to
simply say "its broke" <G>), but I suggest that you turn the manual to
Appendix E and follow the steps outlined in the Receiver Signal Tracing
section.

As another alternative, you can try the "Cheap and Dirty Signal Tracing"
that Tom Hammond has advocated - the document is on the Elecraft website
under Builder Resources - then look at Troubleshooting Tips.

Once you localize the area of failure, we can help further in isolating it
to the failing component.
