K2 freq. counter

lstavenhagen
Quick question about the frequency counter. Just did that test this morning and it read 3999.98. That's low right at the edge of the +/- .02 khz. spec. My question is, I know that's within spec but is that typical? Or should it normally read more towards the middle of the range?

Fortunately, doesn't look like I cooked the 4mhz crystal as I can hear it loud and clear on 4mhz on my 706MKIIG... it's only about 50hz or so off with C22 set in the middle. Very nice! I'm encouraged ;)

LS,

That test is *only* to test the functionality of the counter probe - the
reading will always be close to 4 MHz.  Do not be concerned about the
exact reading - if it reads FAR from 4 MHz, that is a problem.
After you have the K2 fully assembled and want to do a good job of dial
calibration and filter alignment, that is when you need to be concerned
about setting the 4 MHz reference properly (may not be exactly 4 MHz).
Use the procedure and tools that I mention in my website article on K2
Dial Calibration - www.w3fpr.com.

Ok, thanks Don, sorta what I figured that it was ok...

Finished the rest of the tests of the keyer, sidetone, s-meter calibration and the AGC level. I was able to get to 3.80 V without the suggested mod so things are rolling along normally so far....

It's all back apart to continue with part II of the RF board build....

Thanks to all for the help and suggestions (i'll surely have more questions!),
