K2 parts Un-identified object

wsm-3
Help!

In my sealed package of parts for the RF probe there is a component
that doesn't appear to be part of the probe, but I could be mistaken.
It appears to be yellow and is on leads like a small resistor.
The print on it is so small that I have trouble reading it even with
a powerful, lighted magnafying glass. It appears to have 10J with
A1 just under that and is 1/8 inch long, and 3/32 inch diameter.
The other components in the package were the .01uf c1, 4.7 Mohm R1,
1n34A diode, along with a couple wire end connectors and a couple
of banana plugs. Anyone know what it is and if it is part of the RF
probe?  And how do they make print that small????

Thanks
Scott N5SM

RE: K2 parts Un-identified object

Don Wilhelm-3
Scott,

That 'mystery' component is the 10 pF axial leaded capacitor that is to be
used in the frequency counter probe.  If I recall, that envelope is labeled
'Frequency Probe Envelope' rather than RF Probe envelope (although it also
contains the parts for the RF Probe).

The small print is just something that we have to learn to contend with as
components shrink smaller and smaller in size - sorry, but that is just the
way things are - the component manufacturers make the judgement about how
large is large enough - many SMD capacitors are not marked at all, we must
either measure them or keep them in marked packaging until they are used -
so blame the 'state of the art'.
