K2 questions

Jack-123
Hi all

I just rejoined this list so if these matters have been covered recently, my apologies.

1. I have K2 #6404. I'm really pleased with it, but....   there is one slight glitch. When I tune up the power drops to about 75% of full. I move the power control a tiny amount, and it jumps back to the correct power. This means I - press tune - twiddle the power control - operate. Every time.

Is this a common glitch? Is there updated firmware? Any advice at all?

2. I am considering getting the 100w PA and ATU. I cant decide whether to go for the PA in the K2, or house both PA and ATU in the EC2 seperate enclosure, thus allowing my QRP K2 to be seperated when its required.

Does the EC2 option require any more hardware than housing the PA in the K2? Anyone give any thoughts on either of these options?

3. Any chance of splitting this mailing list into two mailing lists. One for K3 and one for everything else. I get the feeling any non-K3 owners have moved on by now. Thats why I left this list. 99% K3. I'm not knocking the K3, but I dont plan to own one, so its kinda dull reading.

cheers folks

Re: K2 questions

Jack,

Each time you move the power control, it takes 2 to 3 dots for the power
control circuits to level out to the requested power - TUNE does not do
that like keying (or speech) does, so if I understand what you are
observing, that may be normal - just give it a bit more keying time to
level out the power.

If your operation is mostly at the home station, and you do not operate
QRP portable, then I suggest you put the KPA100 on the K2 and use the
KAT100 in the short enclosure.
OTOH, if you want a QRP K2 that you can quickly pick up and take with
you, then you will want the EC2 KPA100/KAT100 package.
